Once upon a time, if you had taken a look at my phone’s camera roll, you would have seen photos of just about everything I cooked, including every single how-to step along the way. As a dedicated food blogger, I almost believed that a dish didn’t actually exist unless it was captured from three different angles in the perfect light. My poor family used to sit patiently waiting for the all clear, after I’d finished styling the garnish and adjusting the shadows.

But in the last couple of years something interesting has happened, a return to analog if you will: I’ve still been cooking up a storm, but have almost zero digital evidence to prove it.

This shift really came to light when I cooked a nice dinner the other night, one of those cheap + easy + delicious ones (the recipe is coming soon). I shared a photo to Instagram, and went looking for snaps of what else I’d been cooking, and found less than ten photos taken since mid 2025.

What I’ve realised is I’m finally eating my dinner while it’s still hot, rather than standing on a chair or taking it to another room trying to get the perfect flat lay and better lighting. And honestly, I’m pretty sure my stomach is a much more appreciative audience than the internet.

So, while I fully intend to share some of our favourite family recipes here, consider this a fair warning: they will not be accompanied by a gallery of drool worthy magazine-quality shots. I’d much rather enjoy that bowl of pasta than spend ten minutes getting the perfect shot.

My family is finally able to eat their dinner in peace, and I’m quite enjoying not driving them crazy. So, we’ll still get to the good stuff: the flavours, the methods, and the stories behind the recipes, but I promise to not be quite so annoying to everyone around me in the process.
